What is Somatic Coaching?
Have you ever had a habit that you just can't shift? Maybe it's putting off tasks or getting upset easily over little things. No matter what you try, you end up repeating the same frustrating actions. It's like being stuck in a loop.

This situation isn't about not being determined enough or not being smart enough. It's usually because how we're trying to change doesn't fit well with how our bodies work. You see, our brains are programmed for efficiency, seamlessly adopting routines as natural responses. For example, if you know how to swim or how to play basketball, you don’t have to think about moving your arms or how to dribble the ball, you can do it naturally, without deep thought; it's more automation than deliberation.
Similarly, our automatic responses also shape our personality. Think about the characteristics that effortlessly define you – maybe you’re caring, curious, or a good listener. These are not merely traits; they are habits, refined and ingrained over time. These are habits that you embody – meaning they come effortlessly to you.
And this habit-forming aptitude of our brain can also lock us into patterns that keep us stuck. They're the traits we can’t seem to change no matter how hard we try – the hesitation, the avoidance, the impulsive reactions. It's a riddle that requires more than just a mental solution; it involves a dance of both mind and body.

Since expressing our habits is not a deliberate, analytical process, trying to create change from a purely logical, rational approach with activities like dissecting the habit, goal setting, and increasing effort typically doesn’t make a long-term difference. Creating lasting change requires attuning to other internal intelligences that we often overlook.

Evolutionary biologists explain that our brains developed mainly to serve our social and emotional needs. And guess what? Our brain is not confined to our heads – our brains are distributed throughout our entire bodies. Thus, our bodies serve as a social and emotional sensor, which constantly provides feedback. This sensory input reveals your authentic responses to the happenings and environments in your life. Most of us have learned to intellectualize and discuss our problems, disregarding the intelligence of our bodies. This oversight inadvertently leads to a significant portion of our intelligence being underutilized.

Somatic coaching offers a unique pathway to growth and change, emphasizing the wisdom of the body as a guide to understanding ourselves and our interactions with the world. By paying attention to the body's signals, we can uncover deeply held patterns and beliefs that influence our behavior and choices. Somatic coaching employs techniques such as mindful movement, breathing exercises, and guided awareness to help clients develop a deeper connection with their bodies, senses, emotions, energy, & imagination. This approach naturally increases social & emotional intelligence, supporting individuals in becoming more present, resilient, and empowered to take meaningful action in their lives.

Meet Alexis
Founder of Solana Soul Center
Somatic Coach, Embodied Leadership Facilitator
I am a woman in the world led by spirit & inner guidance. My heart is stirred by sacred song, self-care, mothering, the natural world, community, & body-based wisdom. I am passionate to help people connect with their own inner wisdom, work holistically with their shadows, & step into their full potential ~ showing up as soulful beings in action, contributing to our evolutionary shift in consciousness. My unique background as a somatic coach, mother, tech leader, and a person with invisible disabilities allows me to weave my work across settings - from corporate leadership to intimate healing - affecting change where it is longed for and most needed. I am deeply authentic, present, open, & always in my own process of transformation and growth.

I am open, supportive, kind, and I like to laugh, listen, & share. I am truly present to meet you where you are at. I see you as your own wise sage. I am not here to fix you; I am here to be with you, honor you, & support you in opening your creativity, developing your resilience, discovering your multidimensional wisdom, and living into new ways of being. I include many embodied practices, such as art, nature, song, movement, guided imagery, play & mindfulness, as these are medicines for our soul.

I am committed to cultivating personal, community, and ecological transformation. My intention with Solana Soul Center is to create spaces where we can come together with our whole-selves, learn together, practice together, and engender new possibilities together. The workshops weave scientific knowledge, embodied practices, group psychology, conscious leadership and eco-oriented wisdom traditions to create new pathways for thriving as we all navigate this complex time of being human.
