Gratitude Reflection
Materials Needed
Feeling
Dismissive
How to Do It
Sit down and write a list of things you’re grateful for about the person or situation you’ve been dismissive of. Focus on the positive aspects and contributions that you might have overlooked. Take your time to reflect on each item and how it adds value to your life or perspective.
Why It Works
Practicing gratitude shifts your focus from criticism and dismissiveness to appreciation and acceptance. This exercise helps you to recognize the value in people and situations that you might otherwise dismiss.
Guided Practice
Find a comfortable position where you can sit or stand with ease. Take a few moments to connect with your breath, noticing its natural rhythm. As you breathe, imagine drawing in calm and releasing any tension.
Close your eyes and imagine yourself standing at the edge of a gentle stream, with a series of stepping stones leading across to the other side. Visualize each stone clearly, noticing their shape, color, and texture. Feel the coolness of the stones beneath your feet as you prepare to step onto the first one.
As you step onto the first stone, notice the sensation of stability beneath you. Feel the solid support of the stone and the coolness against your skin. Imagine each step as a moment of clarity or a positive decision in your life. With each step, notice any emotions that arise — perhaps a sense of confidence, a feeling of calm, or a wave of uncertainty. Stay with these sensations, allowing each step to bring a deeper understanding of your path.
As you continue stepping from stone to stone, visualize each stone representing a different aspect of your journey. See if any images or symbols appear on the stones — maybe a word, a symbol, or a color that signifies a key learning or experience. Notice how these images make you feel — perhaps a sense of accomplishment, a recognition of growth, or a feeling of resolve. Stay with these images, allowing them to guide your steps and inform your understanding of your journey.
When you reach the other side of the stream, pause for a moment and take a few deep breaths, feeling the ground beneath your feet. Notice how your body feels now — perhaps more balanced, more grounded, or simply more aware of your path. Gently open your eyes, carrying this sense of clarity and direction with you, feeling prepared to take on whatever comes next with confidence and grace.
